Vivo Dials Up the Excitement for 2018 FIFA World Cup™ in Malaysia

Avid football fans can now rejoice as Vivo is bringing the football frenzy that 2018 FIFA World Cup™ to its customers across the country. As the official smartphone sponsor for the FIFA World Cup™ 2018 and 2022, Vivo is reaching out to local fans of the largest football competition through a series of initiatives, which include sending a customer on an all-expense paid trip to Russia to catch the 2018 FIFA World Cup™ with Janna Nick, Vivo’s brand ambassador, and other exciting on-ground activities.

Commenting on Vivo’s local push for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup™, Mike Xu, Chief Executive Officer of Vivo Malaysia said, “Football is a sport full of passion and excitement, and it is one of the few things that bring Malaysians together through the love for football. Through our line-up of online and on-ground activations, we are looking to amp up the excitement for the 2018 FIFA World Cup™ and bring football fans together to celebrate one of the largest sporting events in the world.”

Selfie Your Way to Russia with #FIFANtastic


Taking a selfie has never been so rewarding! With the brand being synonymous to selfie-taking, Vivo is running the #FIFANtastic contest, whereby one customer with a winning selfie will score an all-expense paid trip catch a World Cup match in Moscow, Russia with Janna Nick, Vivo’s brand ambassador. The winning customer will also be enjoying a ‘backstage’ experience where they can stand a chance to see their favourite footballer from a closer proximity, as well as relishing a trip around Moscow.

From 7 April to 6 May 2018, customers can post a selfie that features elements of FIFA and Vivo V9 on either their Facebook or Instagram account with a set of designated hashtags. They are also required to ‘Like’ and share Vivo’s FIFA-related social media posts to participate in this contest. The one with the most creative selfie will win this once in a lifetime opportunity of catching a football match with Janna Nick. 

Engaging Football Fans Through eSports


With esports gaining grounds in Malaysia, Vivo is partnering with Astro through eGG Network to run a FIFA 18 video game tournament, bringing together both the football and esports craze on one exciting platform. Covering key cities across Peninsular Malaysia, football games enthusiasts will battle it out for a chance to win two tickets to watch the semi-final match at the 2018 FIFA World Cup™, along with other attractive prizes and official World Cup merchandises. Dates and venue for these tournaments are as follows:

  • PENANG : 13 – 15 April 2018, Sunway Carnival Mall
  • MELAKA : 27 – 29 April 2018, Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall
  • PAHANG : 4 – 6 May 2018, Kuantan City Mall
  • KLANG VALLEY : 11 – 13 May 2018, Sunway Pyramid

Meet Raf Yaakob – Vivo’s Football Icon

Part of the brand’s efforts to bolster its customer engagement initiatives, Vivo has named Raden Ahmad Faizal Yaakob, or more popularly known as Raf Yaakob as the Vivo’s Football Icon, adding to its solid line-up of brand personalities. The actor and TV host is no stranger to the local football scene, being the president of Manchester United Malaysian Fan Club and an avid footballer himself. Raf will participate in Vivo Malaysia’s FIFA World Cup™-related marketing, communication and promotional programmes, along with the rest of Vivo Malaysia brand ambassadors.

Vivo announced its agreement with International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) to sponsor the FIFA World Cup for six years in May 2017, covering two tournament cycles where Vivo will become the official sponsor of the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup™, as well as FIFA Confederations Cup. Sponsorship of the FIFA World Cup is in-line with Vivo's progressive expansion into the international marketplace.
